N°1 | Volcano life

01

Clermont Auvergne Métropole, naturally incomparable

Do you dream of a balanced daily life, where nature meets the city? Clermont Auvergne Métropole is the place to live, with nature at your fingertips and fresh air every day. Surrounded by the massifs of the Auvergne volcanoes, spared the deafening hustle and bustle of major metropolises like Paris, Lyon, Lille and Marseille.

A Unesco World Heritage site

In Clermont, you’re less than 30 minutes from the Massif du Sancy and the Chaîne des Puys, a spectacular volcanic landscape listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
And in the middle flows one of Europe’s last wild rivers: the Allier.

The 1,465-metre-high Puy de Dôme rivals another listed heritage site: the Basilique Notre-Dame-du-Port, a jewel of 12th-century Romanesque architecture, typically Auvergne.

The Clermont-Ferrand metropolis is rooted in a land forged by nature, but it also bears the imprint of man, from antiquity to the present day. It’s all here: ancient temples, Arverne sites, cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, townhouses, lava rock, factory chimneys, working-class housing estates, brutalist concrete churches, parks and gardens.
Clermont Auvergne Métropole boasts over 200 days of sunshine a year and one of the lowest rainfall rates in France. But above all, Clermont is the French city with the most rainbows! Incredible but true: its geographical position facing the Puys mountain range favors their formation, especially in autumn and winter when Paris is shrouded in gloom.
