Focus on the world’s first international short film festival

Between its ever-growing audience and its economic spin-offs, the festival is a key player in the local economy.

As a talent spotter, as an antechamber to the Césars and Oscars to which it is now affiliated, and as the first contact with the cinema for generations of Clermont-Ferranders, the festival is about much more than cinema and cultural pleasure.
Indeed, over the years, the event has established itself as a major economic player. A study carried out in 2017 showed that for every euro of subsidy, 22 euros were generated for the economy of the Metropolitan area, with spin-offs to the tune of 11 million euros.

In 2026, the festival team includes 21 permanent members, plus around 100 salaried employees and 350 volunteers during the festival. In 2025, the festival broke its attendance record, with 173,500 spectators and 4,000 professionals in attendance.
This success is also confirmed by the Short Film Market, which takes place during the festival: quite simply, it’s the biggest in the world, bringing together over 800 producers, over 100 buyers, almost 500 distributors and hundreds of festival representatives from all over the world.

The numbers, like the films, reflect the effervescence of the event. The Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival is undeniably a powerful asset for the region’s cultural, economic and tourist appeal.
